What Issues Can I Support?
Unfortunately, children with ADHD and other children who struggle with excutive functioning issues are unfairly given many negative labels. Few challenges can intimidate me. Aside from my coaching training and other experiences, I worked for six years in crisis counseling. I have always felt my brain works best in a crisis! I believe there are no “bad” kids, only misunderstood ones. No child should ever be written off. Anger and lack of motivation are often the result of feeling helpless and frustrated.
These children can be easily misunderstood because they:
Are more sensitive to being overstimulated in their environment
Experience heightened levels of emotion when compared to their peers
Need to learn different ways to do the same task because of their unique brain wiring. Children with ADHD, Autism, and other learning differences experience brain development and growth at different speeds than neurotypical children. Some areas grow faster, and some are delayed.
Have different ways of communicating and interpreting the world around them.
It is important to me that as I coach, I make my clients feel important and understood. I provide a gentle trauma-informed approach and practice patience with every client so they feel comfortable and validated and can partner with me to become their best selves.
Here is a Brief Overview of Areas of Excutive Functioning
-Time Management -Relationships
-Mood Regulation -Rumination
-Goal Planning -Implusvity
-Lifestyle Choices -Prioritization
-Self-Esteem -Focus
-Starting/Finishing Projects -Procrastination
The Importance of Parental Involvement
If you are a parent, I want you to be involved as much as you and the child are comfortable with. It is important that parents be in the loop about their child’s progress so that they can support them in accomplishing their coaching goals!
I do have a parent agreement, and in this agreement, you have the option of:
-Sitting in during your child’s coaching for the first 15 minutes of the session
-Sitting in during your child’s coaching for the last 15 minutes of the session
-Have your child do 3 sessions with me monthly and then check in with me for 1 out of the 4 sessions.
-Having your child fill out a weekly update on progress in their own words to give to you.
